From 1978-1994 Lucas spoke of it being 3 trilogies even once or twice talking about 12 movies but since 1995 he swears up and down that it was only meant to be the 6 films. I will make what i believe to be known here after hearing a few of your answers.

Yeah. I mean, I heard that he was thinking about making nine movies or something like that. But I heard that Lucas really didn't have any ideas as to what to do for the rest of those movies. I mean, the third one has Anican becoming Darth Vader... and the older movies really picked it up from there. So there really was no need or even maybe a possibility to make six or nine more movies.
That doesn't mean they still aren't going to squeeze out every penny they can with this concept. Stupid 3-D Star Wars cartoon... and a television show or something... so lame...

Well they did say that all they had on the sequels 7-9 was very vague outlines but even in the making of episode III they allegedly had as part of the contract for some of the actors (most specifically the one who played chewbacca) that they would also play the roles for episodes 7-9, despite the fact that they had tied up the loose ends that were meant for the continuation in episode 6 (such as the naming of leia as luke's sister and all).
