It's a curse
It has been a long time since the man they call Infinity last stepped in the squared circle. It has been a long time since he felt joy or the wonderment of discovering something new. And while his physical body is cursed with immortality, his mentality is not.
Infinity sits in his local bar of choice, call it any bar in anywhere U.S.A., because the Immortal One has no direction unless it is to the bottom of another bottle. He was on track to take another wrong turn down Jim Beam street when 30 seconds of images on the TV sparked something again.
A lot had died in Infinity over the past year, but there is something that never dies and that is the passion for the only thing he has ever loved. Infinity stared at the TV, his eyes pierced and his senses more alert than they had been in a long time. He quickly motions for the bartender.
Infinity: Hey man, turn the TV up for a second.
The bartender grabs the remote and turns the TV up. Its a commercial for REW's Christmas Cheer PPV. Clips of Cloud Strife, Blake Worship and Dreamkiller filled the screen. Infinity looked at the images of his old compadres and smiled. The old dogs were still at it. He looked down at his glass and tossed it to the side.
Infinity: That used to be me.
The bartender looked at him with intrigue and some disbelief. He cracked a small smile and thought he would have some fun with Infinity who looked 24, but was too old to keep track.
Bartender: You used to wrestle with those guys? For like one day? You are too young to have put in years with these guys.
Infinity: You wouldn't even imagine, but yeah, I wrestled with those guys for quite a while actually.
Bartender: Then why are you always here? Why aren't you out there if you are telling the truth? What happened that you had to become a bar bum?
Infinity: I am here because of my past. I can't handle all I have been through. The amount of miles these feet have walked and years this body has absorbed is unimaginable. But you're right. There is nothing for me in this place, my one and only home has been in that ring.
Bartender: Then why don't you just go if you're so confident you can just walk in to a place like the REW?
Infinity sits there with an emotionless expression on his face. He nods his head once and pounds down a $20 on the bar.
Infinity: You're right. I'm going home.
The bartender just laughs but Infinity stands up as serious as can be and walks out of the bar. He heads to his car and pulls out his cell phone. Infinity takes a seat behind the wheel and takes a deep breath. He stares out the window and tries to gather his thoughts.
This is it.
He goes to the "S" entry in his phone. It's an old friend of Infinity he never thought he would talk to again. But when something inside burns so much, the only thing left to do embrace the flame. It was time to call Scotty Raven.
Infinity hits send...the phone rings...rings...and then a voice.
Raven: Hello?
Infinity gets choked up. He knows what he has to say, but does he have the courage? He has been away from the ring for a long time. Can he keep up? Does he want to keep up?
Raven: Is anyone there? I'm busy I can't deal with this...
He had to make decision. Infinity looked around for answers, knowing no one was there to help him make a decision until his eyes set on a picture he keeps on his dashboard. Infinity, wearing the CEW United States Championship. He was the longest reigning U.S. Champion in that branch of the defunct Ring Wars. Infinity was back, he knew he could do it.
Infinity: Hey Scotty, this is Infinity. I want to come back to REW as soon as possible. I was thinking Christmas Cheer.
Raven: Oh....my....god....
Infinity waited for a response as he sat in his car. Raven was floored.
TBC....
